High school senior Mike Grimsley placed 10th in the State Gross Country championship meet held in Blacksburg last weekend. He finished with a a time of 17:54.
Jason Waters came in 27th with a time of 18:26, and Holly Gangel finished 21st in the girl’s race. , Coach David van de Graaff is very proud of his cross country team; they had a 10-2 season. During the season, Rappahannock lost only to Central and Strasburg. The Central and Strasburg boys’ teams were first and second in the state meet. “We would have a much better chance of going to the state meet as a team if we could have 10 boys and 10 girls on the team,” said van de XJraaff.
Rappahannock’s Junior Varsity Girls’ basketball team defeated Clarke County last week by 36 to 14, their biggest win of the season. Coach Emily Wingate said, “It was the ideal game, and was what we tried to do all year. I was really impressed with the players that came off the bench and kept up the tempo the whole game.” " In the game against Clarke County on November 2, the leading scorer was Sharnita Fletcher with 16 points and eight steals. “She had 8 great game,” said Coach Wingate.
