Another key aspect of Katzen’s success, at least according to Jerry Wood, was negative campaigning. Katzen dismisses that argument.
“Flagging for the voters what an incumbent's performance represented was not negative campaigning,” he contends. “I felt that was illuminating for voters what an incumbent had done during his service down in Richmond. I feel that’s a service for the voters.”
