Eight bids were received for the addition, ranging from Kenbridge’s bid to $1,237,000 from L. White and Company. Bids for. the parking lot addition ranged from $32,000 to $47,685.
Piedmont District representative Frances Thornton was the only member of the School Board present for the bid opening. Administrators had hoped to interview a representative of the low bidder at a School Board meeting Tuesday night, but the meeting was canceled when freezing rain began falling Tuesday afternoon.
The School Board meeting has been rescheduled for next Tuesday. Assistant Superintendent Robert Chappell said the administration plans to have a Kenbridge representative at the meeting and hopes to have a vote on awarding the contract that night.
Bob Moje, the architect who designed the addition for VMDO, plans to check Kenbridge’s references and report by the end of the week. 1
The Kenbridge bid specified completion within 196 calendar days of acceptance of the contract. That schedule would have the addition ready shortly after school opens for the 1994-95 school year.
