Proposed gypsy moth control activities associated with the Park’s integrated pest management program this year include aerial spray treatments on the following:
Sections of the Skyline Drive, Dickey Ridge developed area, Mathews Arm Campground, Piney River Ranger Station, Big Meadows Campground and Picnic Area and Dundo Campground.
Altogether 618 acres of the park are scheduled to be sprayed with Diflubenzuron.
The primary objectives of the propsed actions are to reduce gyspy moth populations and the risks of tree mortaility in the treatment areas. Diflubenzuron is being proposed as the preferred control agent in these areas because its application is most effective in reducing gyspy moth populations where critically needed.
