The Walt Disney Company is a World Class Fortune 500 Company, but more importantly, it is “a good neighbor.” Created by Walt Disney, the Company still carries the well earned image of quality, integrity, cleanliness and character, unequaled anywhere. l

With an initial investment of $700 million, the Company is asking Virginia to underwrite $142 million in revenue bonds for roadway improvements. If you take a very conservative view of the economics and assume that “Disney’s America” related revenues can only pay for these road improvements and nothing else, it is still a good investment. In fact, it is obviously far better than any other highway project in Virginia’s history.

In an effort to protect the environment, Disney has in 1993 alone:

• Given $750,000 to protect the Florida Gopher Tortoise;

• Recycled 131 million pounds of trash (179 tons per day) in their $3.5 million state of the art materials recovery facility;

• Reclaimed 4 million gallons per day of highly treated waste water for golf course and landscape irrigation;

- • Purchased 8,500 acres South of Disney World, given the land to the Nature Conservancy and formed a partnership with six other agencies by establishing “The Disney Wilderness Preserve.”
