Legislative Day

John Marocchi, Board Member of the Rappahannock County Farm Bureau attended the Virginia farm Bureau Federation’s “Legislative Day” at the capitol Jan. 31 in Richmond.

The event was designed to bring Farm Bureau volunteer leaders closer in touch with their respective state legislators.

“We were able to meet with Sen. Kevin Miller and Del. Jay Katzen and discuss some of the most pressing concerns that affect Rappahannock County,” explained Mr. Marocchi.

“It was a very productive day. Our legislators now have more insight into the needs of our local farmers and hopefully it will be reflected in their policy making,” Mr. Marocchi said.

In addition, the 110 Farm Bureau leaders sat in on a Senate Agriculture, Natural Resources and Conservation Committee meeting, and visited both the House and Senate while they Were in session.

The leaders also heard a presentation from Paul Timmrdck, Secretary of Finance, on the Virginia budget situation.

“We were impressed by Secretary Timmreck and we learned a lot, but I think our legislators did as well,” Mr. Marocchi said.
