The Library Board agreed not to allow anyone other than the literacy volunteers to use the meeting room in the library basement on a regular basis.
This follows the policy for the upstairs meeting room.
The purpose is to allow all community groups equal access to library space and not to allow it to be reserved by some groups and individuals.
Groups do use the upstairs meeting room on some regular basis, but they must reserve the room each time.
The library policy committee met to tackle this issue because Del. Jay Katzen had asked if he could set up an office to meet with constituents in the basement room. The office would have been staffed on a part time basis and Del. Katzen intended to install a telephone.
Board members said they hope Del. Katzen will remain favorably disposed towards library funding, and they expect to allow him to meet with constituents there, but they did
