Mr. Fisher works full-time as the director of the quality assurance laboratory for the Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission, and commutes to Maryland four days a week. The round trip takes three hours, and gets longer all the time, he said. Also his 10-hour work days are becomming 12 hour and longer, he said.

Once he retires from the job, and his commuting days are over, Mr. Fisher says he will probably run for mayor of the town of Washington. He says, “I think there will be plenty for a mayor to do”.

Mr. Fisher believes that the biggest problem which the Town of Washington has to face is a declining population. In 1900 the population was 500, he said. In the 1990 census the town’s population was under 200. “The town can either grow or die,” said Mr. Fisher.
