Coach Leake said, “They run the identical offense and defense of the varsity. It is nice they have the ability to do that. If the JV maintains the number two place, they will go to the district tournament on Feb. 26.”
The varsity basketball team lost their three games played in the last week. They fell to Stonewall Jackson last Wednesday 56-62. Coach Leake said, “The first 12 minutes of the game were probably the best we have played all year. We had a 14 point lead in the second quarter, then Stonewall Jackson scored 14 straight points.”
“Our momentum really switched in the second half, and there were several turnovers. We only shot 10 free throws, and Stonewall Jackson shot 23 free throws,” said Coach Leake.
Leading scorers were Andre Fletcher with 16, Jason Settle with 14 and Derek Daczewicz with 12.
On Friday Strasburg beat the varsity 56-34. Coach Leake said, “It was our poorest offensive showing of the year. We were down 11-10 at the end of the first quarter. We had a stone cold shooting night; we missed many inside shots that we usually hit.”
Jason Settle was the leading scorer with 10 points, and Andre Fletcher and J.C. Welch each had seven points.
