J.B. Carter recalled how he came to be invovled in fire and rescue. He said it was probably his dad’s influence. Bobby Carter has been an active member of the Amissville Volunteer Fire Department and Rescue Squad since 1965; 12 of those years as Captain of the Rescue Squad. J.B. remembers, as a young boy, that the household may all be awake, at all hours of the night, as his mother, Frances Poe Carter, would make phone calls to volunteers living too far away to hear the i siren.
Bobby Carter recalls that his son, at about 10-12 years of age, would get out in the yard and made sounds just like the siren,” since they lived across from the Fire Department, everyone thought it was the real thing.
J.B. said the Department can go to your home or business to make sure it is fire-safe.
He asked that the Ruritan Club let him know if they are interested in having a CPR class. Also, there will be a public CPR class in may.
