In the heat of a political campaign people all to frequently demonize the other side in the debate. They see their side as composed of omniscient beings concerned for the welfare of all, while the other side is composed of vicious power-hungry tyrants out to promote the interests of a small clique. This is, of course, errant nonsense. Office seekers, like everyone else, are simply fallible human beings.
Regardless of the results after the votes are tallied Tuesday night, the sun will come up Wednesday morning. The town will still need to do something about inadequate sewer facilities, a problem that extends far beyond the west side of Main Street from the Post Office to the Foster-Harris House. It will still be necessary to ballance the needs and wishes of The Inn and other businesses in town with the needs and wishes of the residents. Decisions about the future of Trinity Episcopal Church will continue to rest with members of the congregation, not the Town Council.
It will also be necessary to plan intelligently to accommodate population growth. If growth is not encouraged in and around the villages and Town, it will swallow up most of the agricultural and forest land in the county in large-lot subdivisions. The charm of the villages and beauty of the countryside will all be lost.
Fodderstack Race
The organizers of the 16th Annual Fodderstack 10K Race are to be congratulated on an outstanding job.
Of course, wonderful weather should get credit too, but all in all it was a roaring success.
A record number of runners preregistered for the race, bringing in funds to help maintain the county park.
For the first time both Eva Smith memorial trophies went to county high school students. Congratualtions to Jason Waters, who won his third Eva Smith, and to Holly Gangel, who won her first. However, we’re hoping adults can recapture these trophies some day.
