Poetry Prizes
Linda Christine Jenkins, daugh- , ter of Khoa Jenkins of Sperryville and the late Charles W. Jenkins, was awarded the Gertrude Claytor Poetry Prize and the Nancy Thorp Poetry Prize during the recent honors convocation at Hollins College in Roanoke.
The Gertrude Claytor Poetry Prize is a prize for the best poem or group of poems written by a student. The Nancy Thorp Poetry Prize is ^warded each year to the author of the best students poem(s) appearing in Cargoes, the Hollins literary magazine.
Miss Jenkins, a graduate of Rappahannock County High School, is a junior at Hollins majoring in English.
Founded in 1842 as Virginia’s first chartered women’s college, Hollins is regarded as a leader in liberal arts education, with nationally recognized programs in creative writing and psychology. Hollins ranked in the 1994 edition of the Princeton Review Student Access Guide first in “Best quality of life,” first in “Professors bring material to life” (best faculty), first in “Things run smoothly” (best administration), and first in “Happy students.”
