By SHARON KILPATRICK • Rappahannock Newt Staff Writer • There was a serious break in a ! main line of the Town of Washington water system Monday night, Mayor Dean Morehouse reported. ; He said the break was in a main line coming down Piedmont Avenue. The break had nothing to do with the ; work being done by Rappawan to ' upgrade the system, Mayor More, house said, but the company jumped < on the problem and worked long ! hours in the middle of the night to make repairs. “It wasn’t their re; sponsibility. It wasn’t in their con; tract,” he said, expressing gratitude for Rappawan’s help. The break occurred about 1 a.m. Tuesday morning and it was somewhat after noon Tuesday before sendee was fully restored, he said. : The break came in a six-inch main line that was not scheduled for replacement. Mayor Morehouse said before construction work began the line was inspected in several places and those places looked fine, he said. However, the line is 50 years old " and very rusted where it broke, he 'said.
