In 1979 at the age of 15 J.B. joined the Amissville Volunteer Fire Department as a junior member.

In 1980 he became an EMT and Firefighter I & II (FF III now).

In 1983 he became a Fire Instructor and senior member.

Also, in 1983 he became a career firefighter with the City of Manassas Park.

In 1984 he became a paramedic.

In 1986 he became a career firefighter and paramedic with Prince William County.

He held the following offices in the Amiss ville Fire Department: Fire LT, Fire Captain, EMS Captain and is presently Fire Chief.

Some of his other training includes the following: Cardiac Technician, HAZMAT II, Instructor III, Officer II, Driver Pump Operator, Heavy Tactical Rescue, CPR instructor and national registered paramedic.

J.B. is married to the former Sandra Ross of Warrenton and is the father of two children, Emily, three and Adam, two months.

When Ruritan Club president Roger Cordani advised J.B. he could have a one-year free membership in the Club, he remarked “I’m not sure what night I have free anymore; I have to take Sandra with me now to the Fire House to get to see her.”

I believe the Club had a greater appreciation for the many hours our volunteers spend so that they might serve us better, although some of the members are life-long members of the Fire Department in which they’ve served in years past.
