The School Board approved a curriculum to teach character virtues at the high school this year at last week’s meeting.
That followed a vote in August to approve a curriculum to teach character virtues at the elementary school.
Committees developed the curricula over the summer. Surveys of parents at both schools indicated support for teaching character virtues.
At the elementary school the curriculum is designed to teach citizenship, responsibility, respect, kindness, honesty, cooperation, self-discipline and appreciation of learning.
The high school curriculum includes patriotism (rather than citizenship), compassion and courtesy (rather than kindness), self-discipline, diligence, courage, patience and work ethic, as well as other virtues included in the elementary curriculum.
