By now, most of your spring crops are out of the garden and weeds are beginning to encroach on what once was a productive space. Don’t yield to the summer doldrums, lay in the sun, and let the weeds take over. Get in there and weed.
Weeds that you let take over will increase your garden work by providing a home from which insects and diseases can attack your vegetables this year and next. They also will be the source of a thousand more seeds and weeds. They will gradually make their way to your still productive garden space and reduce the harvest by competing for light, water, and nutrients.
