An international virtuoso in the grand 19th-century tradition, Martin Berkofsky, will give a recital of music for the piano by Beethoven, Chopin and Liszt at the Theatre at Washington at 8 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 1.
The concert will be the first solo piano recital of classical music to be held at the Theatre at Washington, which is already becoming known as a venue for chamber music and vocal recitals. Berkosky has chosen to include in this program six mazurkas and the Polonaise-Fantasie, Op. 61, by Chopin, Beethoven’s Sonata, Op. 10, No. 2, in F major, and some rarely heard Liszt-Wagner transcriptions.
For 13 years Berkofsky resided abroad, performing and broadcasting extensively in 25 countries. He returned to the United States in 1991 and appeared at the Kennedy Center in performance with Gervase de Peyer and James Buswell, members of the Lincoln Center Chamber Music Society.
