Mel Naumann loves to grow apples, and the more varieties the better.

His Flint Hill orchard, named Indian Hill, has 686 trees, and 120 produce antique apples. And he is still planting new trees every year.

Mr. Naumann retired from the federal government in 1972, and then moved from Northern Virginia hack to his home state of Texas. The beauty of the Virginia mountains lured him back to this area in 1978, when a piece of property in Flint
