A fire did extensive damage to the Robert G. Dennis Jr. residence near Dennis’s Store in Castleton.
According to Sheriff John Henry Woodward, who responded to the fire as a member of the Castleton Fire Department, the fire was apparently caused by & malfunctioning refrigerator. The fire started in the wiring, and the refrigerator burnt from the inside out, he said. “Heat built up, and the doors flew open,” lie added. “Flames shot up to the ceiling.”
He reported that the Dennis family was sleeping when the fire Started and that smoke alarms in the house alerted them to the danger
