To the Editor:
I would like to thank the Rappahannock department of Social Services. My husband and I were not prepared to be fulltime parents toi his children overrate, financially or otherwise. I had no parenting skills, my husband of course had some, and these children had a lot of serious problems.
Social Services came to the rescue, with the assistance we needed. t Family Counseling, Food Stamps, Fuel Assistance, Medicaid, they helped with clothing and made sure the children had presents at Christmas and any other problems our family may have had Social Services was there to lend a helping hand. I feel Social Services went out of their way to help our family to stay a family when all the odds were against us.
Social Services, did not make us feel like a lower form of life, that we were lazy and just out to use the system to get free hand outs. We were told that with our work history, we had been contributing for a combined thirty-five years with the taxes we have been paying, making available these services for other families in the county, and we had a right now to use them for our family.
My family and I, no longer need these services, but I am certainly happy that these services were available and that the Rappahannock Department of Social Services has such caring and professional staff members to help out in a time of need. A sincere thanks to all of you.
