Feeling a little rusty? It may be those pesky free radicals at work. But, fear not! It’s the antioxidants to the resuce!

Scientists believe that antioxidants offest a normal body process known as oxidation that results in the formation of altered molecules called free radicals. Free radicals, which steal electrons (parts) from other molecules, can cause irreversible damage may lead to the formation of cancer cells. Free radicals have also been blamed for such ailments as heart disease or cataracts and the aging process itself.

The body naturally produces antioxidants that protect cells from free radical attack. Antioxidant nutrients, such as vitamins C and E and beta carotene, also fight free radicals in a variety of ways. Most health authorities recommend getting antioxidants and other cancer fighting substances from a well-balanced eating plan rather than by taking supplements.
