all of the horses were returned to the farm. The bam, however, was burned completely to the ground.

The owners of the farm, Dudley and David Semmes, were not there the night of the fire. They had horses in another barn on the property, and those horses were unharmed. All of the horses involved in the fire were boarded at that barn.

Ms. Bennett said that the exact cause of the fire is unknown, but that it was electrical, and arson has been ruled out. She said it may have started in the tack room, which was located in the center of the barn.

She hopes that this incident will make more people realize that it would be a good idea to have smoke detectors installed in their horse barns and have them w ired to their house.

Ms. Bennett said that even though she had training for what to do for horses in case of a fire, “You can never be prepared for something like this.”
