The young Coekburn was an avid pony club member as a junior rider. Like connections made his entire life, names taken from* his register of friends and contemporaries read like a who’s who of the steeplechasing and foxhunting world. Two of his best pony club “mates” were former top English jockeys and current trainers Oliver and Simon Sherwood.
