heater is already full of hot water, the homeowner should not notice. This lessens the Cooperative’s need for costly, on-peak wholesale electricity, thus saving money.
“Everyone’s a winner with our load management program,” says Gary Schwartz, supervisor of load management at Rappahannock Electric Cooperative. “The Cooperative spends less on electricity, which is reflected in our rates, and the -participating customers get free repairs on their water heaters.”
Currently, more than 10,000 REC customers have a load management switch on their water heaters. At Rappahannock Electric Cooperative, every customer is an owner and the load management program gives the owners a wav to actively participate in saving the Cooperative, and themselves, money. Schwartz says greater customer participation would save even more money.
Rappahannock Electric Cooperative is a customer-owned, electric utility which serves 60,000 homes and businesses in parts of 16 counties across Virginia including part of Rappahannock County.

Cadet Michael Brown of Washington was among 246 Virginia Military Institute cadets who were recently named to the Dean’s List for the fall semester.
Cadet Brown is a sophomore majoring in civil engineering. He is a 1992 graduate of RCHS and the son of Mr. and Mrs. Michael Brown Sr.
To be eligible for the Dean’s List, a cadet must have a 3.0 grade point average. .
