was born in October of 1992. The Cockburns live in Maryland just north of Leesburg, though they

a cottage in Hamilton as well.

“I like riding over hurdles just as well as 1 like riding over timber," Cockburn said, adding that though stiff timber jumping efforts were more like the steeplechase fences found in his homeland, he finds racing over hurdles equally challenging in this country. Proof positive of his comfort levels over both obstacles: in 1994, he trained and rode wife Chrissy’s Lone Star Lester to a trio of timber triumphs to be voted champion timber runner in the state, lie also guided hurdlers Damascake, Key To The Abbey, Murray’s Ruler and Secret Raise to win for the title.

l imber runners Imperial Morn and Word of I lonor, both of whom Cockburn rode to win previously over hurdles, added to his yearend, nine-win tally. Cockburn said he has four in training for the spring, in addition to riding the bulk of Dr. Rogers’ runners.

What goes around, comes around. Champion rider in 1990, ’91, ’93 and '94, he draws deeply on his heritage on the racecourse and in the hunt field. It shows.
