point-to-point championships in the past five years, Cockbum had this to say: “Starting with my father, and grandfather, and mother, and my dad’s sister and her husband, I was into (jump racingj before I knew it.”
Mis championships come honestly, then. But far from being a foreign bully who comes in and takes food from the mouths of American riders, Cockburn has been a U.S. resident since 1989 and is completely at home in Virginia, Maryland and the American steeplechasing game as well as the hunt field.
In addition to being honored as champion point-to-point rider in ’94, Cockburn also helped wife Chrissy’s Lone Star Lester earn the Timber Morse of the Year title. Me also found time to help start up the newly formed Loudoun Hunt, West pack in Loudoun County. Me is joint-master of the group.
Family Heritage
Bom Bay Crosby Cockbum in 1956, Cockbum was bom in rural Warwickshire, an English county in an area called the Midlands about 90 miles northwest of London. “My father Crosby Cockbum was a ‘hunting farmer,’”
