At some point in the early afternoon the dogs got away from the hunters and strayed across Mr. Massie’s property onto Mr. Dwyer's land. The hunters followed, taking their guns with them.
They were seen on Mr. Dwyer's property by Mr. Blosser, who drove over and told his neighbor about the intrusion Mr. Blosser then returned home, got on his A TV (All Terrain Vehicle) and drove over to an old orchard on Mr Dwyer's property looking for the hunters.
When he found them they had a pack of dogs w ith them and they were walking las terrain and brush would allow ) generally back towards the old packing shed near Massie's Corner, where they had left their vehicle.
Mr. Blosser convinced the two hunters that they should lay down their guns to keep things from getting out of hand. They did so and then he fired a few shots in the air as a signal to Mr. Dwyer that he had found the hunters.At that point the hunters were approximately a half mile in on Mr Dwy er's land and had crossed at least one clear fence line to get there.
Mr. Dwyer drove up and got out of his pickup truck carrying a pistol. He then proceeded to grill the two men on their knowledge of Virginia hunting and trespass laws while the dogs sat quietly in a circle around them. He asked them to pay him S50 each for hunting on his property.. The hunters claimed that they were on Mr. Dwyer's land solely to retrieve their dogs and were not hunting.
They refused his offer.
As Mr. Blosser related the conversation. the two men admitted firing their guns several times, but only to help recall the dogs. Mr. Blosser admitted that he talked mostly with the younger hunter while Mr. Sims Sr.. 65. and Mr. Dwy er. 76. continued to argue.
