Year-end points are accrued for fierce seasonal competition. Trophies are awarded in each of a trio of distinctive sections for different age levels of riders.
There are three divisions for riders to choose from: fast time, optimum time and junior optimum (if the age is right.).
The point of the fast time division is simply to see which pair ofhorse and rider teams can finish the course the fastest. The fasttime division often acts as a precursor to more formal racing by hunter riders. Many of the competitors in the foxhunter’s timber division, a regular point-to-point race section, started their competitive life in the hunter pace ranks.
The adult optimum and junior optimum teams are racing to see who can come the closest to the set time. I lunter pacing in the spring is often followed by a summer off for horse and rider alike, with serious riding starting back in the fall with the hunter trials circuit.
