The county’s letter assigning a 911 address is a new addition to our refrigerator’s collection of important notices.
When this arrived, 1 recall my amazement upon reading the last paragraph: “We regret any inconvenience this may cause you. This is a worthwhile project...” For us, these words recently proved both an unnecessary apology and an incredible understatement.
We have our office in our home, and 1 was working there one very cold Sunday night when by husband ducked his head in and casually, calmly report a chimney fire in progress. When a chemical additive failed to slow the display of flames shooting above our roof, I shut down the computer and dialed 911 as my husband transferred our two sleeping children from warm beds to a cold
