Luke said that he believed Mr. Cook had shown that he was entitled to a restricted license, and Judge Brown granted the license, telling Mr. Cook that the license was only /or travel to and from his place of employment by the most direct route. He said, “I hope you make it. 1 am betting on you.”
In court last Thursday, Michael W. Wharton, Jr., 23, of Washington, pled guilty to an amended charge of assault and battery. He was originally indicted on a charge of malicious wounding in an incident which occurred at Hillsdale Grocery involving Mr. Wharton and David Lee Smoot last August.
Mr. Wharton’s six month sentence was suspended, and he will be on 12 months’ unsupervised probation.
Charles C. Boykin, Jr., 32, of Amissville, will be tried without a jury on April 6. He is facing felony charges of possession of a firearm while being a convicted felon, possession of cocaine, and possession of cocaine while in possession of a firearm. He was indicted for the charges last November, and is presently in jail in Fauquier County.
