Earlier this month the Architectural Review Board for the town of Washington approved applications for an addition to the Medical Center and a pergola for the Rush River Company.
The Rappahannock Medical Center, represented by Dr. Werner Krebser, was granted approval to build an addition on to the back of the building. Dr. Krebser said that they will be adding sections 12 feet by 32. feet, on two floors, for a total of 384 square feet.
The addition will be brick, and Dr. Krebser said it will match the existing brick on the building exactly . He also said that the medical center is 20 years old now and needs a new roof. Because the entire roof, including the new addition, will have the same color roofing, Chairman Donna Kevis said that it is not necessary to have approval from the ARB regarding the color.
Board member Ed Barton said. “I think it will be attractive and I move we accept.” The approval passed unanimously.
Mary Simmons of the Rush River Company was granted her request to build a pergola (an arbor with an open rooD on the uphill side of her building on Main Street. “The idea is to kind of soften the building. People could sit there while others are shopping, she said.”
