Rules may have been made to be broken, but such is certainly not the case in Virginia Steeplechase Association racing and on the Virginia point-to-point circuit.
Competition is fierce along all levels of racing in these parts and the gradual evolution of the current set of rules and regulations has added a certain degree of professionalism in the sport of point-topointing, including some series events that are populated, by definition, only by amateurs.
For the railbird that attends one, or maybe two, hunt race meetings per season, a more thorough understanding of the whys and wherefores of the rules can add greatly to the understanding of impassioned scorekeeping by the players themselves.
