American Travels
In 1987, Cockburn answered a call to travel once again to America, to work at Middleburg's Salamander Farm for steeplechase and Hat trainer fom Pratt. After hunting the season, C’ockburn entered the stateside racing game, riding his first winner, locally bred Colonel Kerfoot, at Great Meadow in May 1988.
He had paired up with Hamilton horseman Joe Rogers that same spring — riding his first IJ.S. race on Roses and Drums — and the rest, as they say, is history.
