The Board of Supervisors has scheduled a public forum on roads for May 1 at 7 p.m. at the Courthouse.
This is a follow up to anfarlier ptitjlic meeting in March on proposals presented to the supervisors and Planning Commission members, as well as the public, by Kellerco, a traffic-growth consulting firm..
The supervisors and planners had received parts of the report in December. Kellerco contracted with the Rappahannock-Rapidan Planning District Commission (PD9) to produce such reports for all the counties in the planning district.
At the March meeting Richard Keller of Kellerco projected traffic increases by the year 2010 that could necessitate the following changes in Rappahannock County roads:
• Widening U.S. 211 to six lanes between Washington and Sperryville.
• Widening U.S. 522 to four lanes from Flint Hill to Chester Gap with upgrades from Massies Comer to Flint Hill, and possible four-laning of U.S. 522 from Sperryville to Culpeper, with bypasses around Flint Hill, Sperryville and Woodville.
• Upgrading Routes 621 and 729 to make them major access corridors.
• Adding several stop lights and overpasses throughout the county, including Massies Comer.
The study foresees U.S. 522 as a major truck route from 1-81 in Front Royal to Charlottesville, Richmond, and the Hampton Roads area.
