Other activities at the church will be Grandma’s Attic sale (flea market items donated by local residents), a plant sale (geraniums, petunias, marigolds, impatiens, begonias and ferns in hanging baskets), free blood pressure screening (12-2 p.m.), and plenty of food (country ham biscuits, hamburgers, hot dogs, baked beans, cole slaw and a bake sale).
Saturday is the 25th anniversary of Earth Day, and many activities are planned at Ben Venue Farm, which will coincide with the Earth Day Kite Fly, planned from 12 noon to 5 p.m.
Activities will include making and flying kites, environmental education programs, another silent auction, and an opportunity to see the work of local artists.
Participants at the Earth Day celebration include RAWL, PEC, the Ragged Mountain Resource Center, the 4-H CCLC Joy Luck Club, the elementary school PTO and Environmental Club, Spring Mountain School, RLEP, the Spiral Grove, and local artists Janet Kerig, Kim McLaughlin, Brenda Van Ness and Lyn Beaver.

Tickets for the Earth Day Kite Fly are $2 and children under six are free. The rain date is set for April 23.
In the meantime the RAA baseball season is expected to get underway Saturday with opening ceremonies and games at Stuart Field in Amissville.
Laurie Marshall, whose multimedia dance drama, “Stories from the Dust in the Comer” premiered in the county last weekend, will again perform this Sunday. The performance will be held in the Meadow Room in the Main House at Airlie in Warrenton at 2 p.m. A donation of $5 to $25 is requested to benefit the Bosnian Relief Mission.
Saturday evening forces a choice of activities. The Sperryville Rescue Squad’s annual Miss Rappahannock Pageant is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the elementary school.
Alternatively citizens may choose the final program of the “Smithsonian at Little Washington” concert series at The Theatre at Washington at 8 p.m., with a pre-concert talk at 7:30.
Tickets for the concert at $13.50 if reserved or $15 at the door; children’s tickets are half-price. Reservations may be made by calling 675-1253.
