Another great “hero of the faith” has “gone home.” Mrs. Eliza Settle died Easter Sunday following a stroke on Thursday. Funeral services were held at Geest Funeral Home in Culpeper on Wednesday.
Mrs. Settle was a very dedicated Christian. She was a charter member of the Amissville Full Gospel church which held its first service Easter, 1957. According to family members, Mrs. Settle had never missed an evening services at the annual Amissville Camp Meeting since its inception in 1959. As a matter of fact, she was in church last Wednesday night. A lifelong resident pf Rappahannock County, Mrs. Settle had recently celebrated her 95th birthday.
I vividly recall an interview with Ms. Settle in September 1988. Two events stand out. She discussed a tornado that had come through the Rock Mills area in 1929 that killed her halfbrother. Also, she told about her mother’s death as a result of riding horseback fiercely to escape rising flood waters. She was with child at the time.
Mrs. Settle raised a fine family whom have also been a blessing to the community.
