II at Moffett Field, Calif, commissioned in the army of the United States in 1942, He was selected for the regular Air Force in 1947 when the new department of the Air Force was formed. He served in California, Hawaii, Australia, New Guinea, The Philippines, Turkey, The Pentagon and Japan. His last active duty assignment was as Chief Judge of the Air Force’s highest court. He was responsible for the development of the Judge Advocate Generals Area Representative Program and was awarded the Legion of Merit, twice for Meritorious Services.
After retirement, he practiced law in Washington, D.c. for six years specializing in Military Administration Law with emphasis on practice before the Correction Boards of all services. He opened his own practice in Rappahannock County in 1976.
He retired in 1987 and in 1988, moved to Sunnyside Presbyterian Retirement Community in Harrisonburg.
He is survived by his wife, Hazel (Dolly) Biddle; a son, Timothy M. Biddle of Purcellville; a daughter, Susan Jeanne (Biddle) Riley of Camillus, N.Y.; a sister, Mrs. S.K. Wheeler of Shawnee, Kansas and seven grandchildren.
The Kyger & Trobaugh Funeral Home in Harrisonburg was in charge of the arrangements.
George Jenkins Jr.
George Raymond Jenkins Jr., 31, of Suffolk, died April 12. He was a native of Suffolk.
Mr. Jenkins was a surveyor. He belonged to St. Paul’s Episcopal Church and the Loyal Order of Moose No. 141 and was a former Boy Scout.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Deborah Morris Jenkins; a daughter, Stephanie Renee Jenkins; a son, George Raymond Jenkins III and his parents, George Raymond and Elizabeth Vemer Jenkins.
Also surviving are two sisters, Susan J. Jones and Debra J. Johnson and a brother, William Alfred Jenkins, all of Suffolk and paternal grandparents, George W. and Bessie Ellen Jenkins of Sperryville.
A memorial services was held Saturday, April 15 by Rev. H. Vance Mann in St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Suffolk.
