Mr. Starks said, “I knew he was try ing to pick a fight when he asked me about his brother. I heard Ernie say, “I don’t want to fight you. I know you can beat me.” After Mr. Sisk hit Mr. Fletcher, said Mr. Starks, he could hardly move, and he was bleeding.
Deputy Compton testified that Mr. Sisk had been drinking and was running his mouth quite a bit. She asked Mr. Sisk why he hit Mr. Fletcher and he told her that he had hit him with his fist but not with brass knuckles.
Deputy Compton said that when she arrived, Pete Aylor was also there after the rescue squad arrived and asked Mr. Sisk why he had hit Ernie. She said Mr. Sisk said to Mr. Aylor, "You want some of this white boy? Bring your black a_over here.”
Mary Pearson, a clerk who was working at the 211 Quicke Mart the morning of Dec. 31, testified that she called the Sheriffs Office before the fight ensued, after she saw Mr. Sisk arguing with Mr. Starks. She said, “I saw Mr. Sisk hit Ernie twice and Ernie hit the ground.”
