The Culpeper Minute Men Chapter, NSDAR, met at the Culpeper United Methodist Church in Culpeper on Tuesday, April 11 with Mrs. Thomas Eastham, Regent, presiding and with CDR. Josephine Chelf and Mrs. James A. Weaver as hostesses.
In the President General’s Message, read by Mrs. Dieter Knuepfer, Mrs. Blair recognized and praised the National Officers and State Officers for their dedicated services to the organization. The total of all their services and contribution, in large part, represents the accomplishments of the National Society towards its continued growth and ever greater goals.
Mrs. Edward I. Barton read the National Defense report on how the elderly illegal immigrants strain the welfare system. They account for 28 percent old people on SSI but that is not he only welfare program that serves non-citizens. House Republicans estimate that the cost of all kinds of welfare to illegal immi- ' grants amounts to $9 billion a year.
The speaker for the afternoon, introduced by Mrs. Dieter Knuepfer, was Mrs. Owen Charles Baker, Docent and Tour Guide at the National Gallery of Art in Washington. Her subject was art from colonial times to the twentieth century. Early colonials had no time for art but barn painters, farmers etc. tried represent life then.
