Cyndi Welch pitched for the softball team striking out four. The Panther squad had big innings in the fifth, sixth and seventh. Angie Atkins and Amy Payne had three singles each; Cyndi Welch had two singles; Cari Kerr had two doubles and a single; Kylene Wolfe had a home run and tvso singles, and Courtney Welch had a triple and a single.
The baseball team played “pretty good defense with only one error,” Coach Jason Gouchenour said. Unfortunately the pitchers had a hard time and six of George Mason’s 10 runs came from walks.
At home against Stonewall Jackson Thrusday evening both teams lost with the softball team losing 7 to 6 and the baseball team losing 8 to 3.
Coach Gpuchenour said the team was plagued with “bad luck.” The team hit pretty well but too many hits went right to Stonewall’s fielders, he said. Also too many hits came with two outs. “These two-out rallies soon get killed,” he said.
Meanwhile the softball team was letting errors pile up. Stonewall got its seven runs with just two hits.
On Monday the teams faced Brentsville in games with rain falling throughout.
The baseball team lost 12 to 0 in a game called because of weather after five innings. The softball team was behind 11 to 3 in the bottom of the fifth. Rappahannock managed to get its first two batters on base when the umpires decided to call the game because of the rain.
