Mary Ann Kuhn’s application for construction of a three-board fence across the front of her property was passed unanimously. The bed and breakfast to be opened there will be known as The Middleton Inn, she said. About the only discussion came from Ed Barton, who suggested that she use a white stain on her fence instead of painting it white.
The third application, a sign painted by Hank Watkins for Charlotte Taylor for Chrysalis Gallery, was also approved unanimously, without much discussion.
Mr. Barton said that some signs in town need to be repaired or be redone. Mr. Eldred said that by logic business owners should be self-policing, that it is only common sense to keep the signs in shape. The board decided to have Bet Gehringer in the County Administrator’s Office send a form letter to all businesses in town with signs.
Fran Eldred asked if the board had had their required yearly election. ARB member Patrick O’Connell said that they had the election early in the year. Mrs. Kevis had been elected chairman at that meeting by unanimous vote., he said.
Mrs. Eldred told Mrs. Kevis that • she had people come into her office complaining about Mrs. Kevis’s job as chairman of the ARB. She called her argumentative, and carried on for quite a while.
