The charge against Kevin Reid LeVans of Sperryville looked simple enough in General District Court on Tuesday: Driving Under the Influence — second offense in five years.
Commonwealth Attorney Peter Luke urged the court to look at “what we have to do to protect the public. The Commonwealth would like to focus on the point that a person has to learn to be responsible for his own actions.”

He admits to a drinking problem that goes back 25 years. The current DUI charge was the fourth since 1981. This time his blood alcohol level was measured at .15.
“I have quit drinking in the past because other people wanted me to, not because I thought I needed to,” he said from the witness chair.
He is currently in yet another alcohol treatment program, this one at Fauquier Hospital.
