Near the frpnt counter are whole Smithfield hams, fresh onions, tomatoes and potatoes, and many kinds of jerky, including venison jerky.

Like many other country stores, the FT Valley Grocery carries many non-food items too: fishing supplies, film, styrofoam coolers, water jugs, cassette tapes (from Mary Chapin Carpenter to Freddy Fender to David Bowie); postcards, bobby pins, hair nets, even Redskins hats. There is also a large section of automotive supplies, including fuses, hose repair tape, bulbs and tire gauges, and two gas pumps out front.

For gardeners, there is a large selection of flower and vegetable seeds.

The store is open from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday through Thursday; from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. They are closed, however, from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Sundays.

Oliver Brown said, “There are a lot of good stores in the county but this is my favorite. It is the most interesting.”
