Elephants, mice and bears. Oh my!
Aransas the story teller began his performance Wednesday evening by juggling those three things at once.
After this seemingly nothing could be interesting. However the library storyteller, a Vietnam veteran, managed to keep the children’s attention when he told a number of stories.
The first of these tales was quite similar to Brer Rabbit but with a spider instead:
Nyami, one of the gods, stole all the stories on the Earth and put them in a wooden box.
A spider comes to Nyami and asks Nyami to give him the stories so he can make a large sum of money by charging people to listen to them.
The god agrees to give the stories to the spider if he brings him “the long scary python, the hornet with the sting of fire and the spirit that nobody can see”.
The spider returns home and asks his wife how he can capture the the snake. She tells him to get the longest vine he can find. He then leaves to do so.
