He said representatives from that organization said they had looked at the Rush River and did not find such dangers, but he added they had visited on Friday, June 30, when it would not have been possible for them to go very far up in Harris Hollow.
He said if the county qualified for the emergency aid to work in the river the federal government would be responsible for 75 percent of the cost and the county for 25 percent. He said the state might provide some help.
Mr. McCarthy said landowners would have to give permission for the heavy equipment to come on their land. All those there said they would be happy to sign a paper saying they would do that.
John Clark Jr. said “The whole river changed course. All that’s holding it is a berm about the size of that table” (the one the supervisors sit at during meetings).
He said, “I’d hate to see all the work being done go away with three or four inches of rain. Now is the perfect time to do it.”
