She started with a job at Leggett in Culpeper but is now working for Revco because that job is full time and provides benefits. She said what most alarmed many at Aileen was losing their health insurance.
Mrs. Sisk said it makes her sad to drive by the Aileen plant building and see it empty. She is worried that it will deteriorate, and she hopes some company buys the building and reopens it. “We had our fusses, but we were one big family there,” she said.
Cheryl Jordan worked for a while at Marshall Manor nursing home, but now she has a job cleaning offices in McLean. She said she is making about twice as much money as she made at Aileen, but she has a much longer commute. She lives in Flint Hill. Now she gets up very early in the morning to drive to Front Royal to meet a bus that leaves at 5:10 a.m. to take her and other employees to the job in Northern Virginia.
Mary Frances Bywaters has found part-time work at the Faith Mountain Company in the distribution center. She is trying to work her way up to full-time employment at the company.
Although it has been a financial struggle, she said, “I can’t complain. The people out there are so nice. It’s a wonderfiil company to work for. Last winter she took a computer class at the library with Ted Chapman as her tutor. “He’s a really fine teacher,” she said.
