said the water was up to her knees.

Mrs. Fletcher said this flood was higher than any she has seen in the 35 to 40 years she has lived there.

The Red Cross arranged to put the family up for four days at the Comfort Inn in Warrenton got them some clothes and arranged for the security deposit and first month’s rent so they could move into a house on Piedmont Ave.

Now the effort gets underway to rebuild.

But first Mrs. Fletcher is negotiating with the neighboring Roy family to acquire a piece of adjoining land that is higher than her current house site.

“I’m too old to be running from water,” she said.

Once she has the deed to the property in hand, surveyors will be at work and the land will be cleared. An architect will work with the family on the new house design.

Much of the labor and materials will be donated. Mr. Aitken will coordinate that. Mr. Kreyling will coordinate construction. Mrs. Fletcher will get a low-interest loan for what is not covered by donations.

Mr. Caprara said they hope to begin construction in two weeks.
