The initial assessment shows that changes were scattered throughout Shenandoah National Park. The heaviest damage to roads and trails and biggest changes in park terrain were isolated to areas that received torrential downpours on June 27 and 28. The hardest hit areas include Mount Marshall area in the park’s northern section, the lower east side in the park’s central section, and the Moormans River area near the southern end of the park. But, trails and administrative roads were damaged throughout the park.
Streams temporarily closed to fishing include Rapidan River, Staunton River, and North Fork of Moormans River. Trails temporarily closed include the lower Rapidan (by way of Criglersville and Graves Mills), Staunton River, McDaniel Hollow and Pocosin Hollow.
As the assessment of streams, roads, and trails in the park continues, changes to the list are being made ~ fairly frequently. Visitors to Shenandoah National Park should check with visitor center or entrance station staff or call 999-3500 for the latest information on trail, road and stream conditions park-wide.
