About half of the art in the live auction sold, and many pieces in the silent auction sold also. One couple from Houston, who was visiting here for their anniversary, purchased three paintings from the live auction.
The artwork was a wonderful representation of paintings, sculpture, pastels, drawings, a monotype, and masks produced by very talented artists, obviously appreciated by the audience. The youngest artist with work in the live auction was Jeremy Slack, 12 year-old son and “budding ornithologist,” according to his mother Laurie Marshall, whose painting Peregrine Falcon was purchased in the auction.
Tom Spande, who has been showing his work in the gallery since he was 11 and is now in his early 20’s, had one painting in the auction, “Embassy by the Bridge of Buffaloes.” Mrs. Marshall explained that Tom now struggles with schizophrenia and she hopes that he will continue his wonderful art.
The auctioneer was Lawrence “Pee Wee” Bennett of Culpeper, who donated his services for the event.
