Wood Is
People
Oriented
To the Editor:
Perhaps many of the voters of Jackson District have already made up their minds about whom they will support on Nov. 7 for the Rappahannock County School Board.
Perhaps, however, many are undecided and would like to know more about candidate Rick Wood.
From personal observation, I can share with you that Rick is very open and people-oriented. He would welcome any questions or concerns regarding his views on education.
Rick believes first of all that parents should have a choice in the education of their children. His two oldest children have attended public schools most of their lives and have also attended private schools when he felt it was necessary and in their best interest.
He believes:
• Teachers should have more control in the classroom, where the teaching environment can be ideal for all.
• There should be quality vocational and technical training.
• There should be less government involvement, with more tax money spent in the classroom, and, in the case of Rappahannock High, a football field.
Perhaps most of all, Rick has a good deal of common sense and leadership qualities that enable him to make decisions quickly arid effectively- lyI
have seen this in his years as general manager of his family-owned and operated automotive centers. He has the respect of the men with whom he works. Rick also has a heart for his employees. I have seen him many times give a man a second and third chance to become a good mechanic. I have also witnessed his compassion when he assisted other employees in securing admission into a rehabilitation center to get their lives back in order. Rick never likes to give up on anyone, and has always gone the extra mile to help whenever he can.
Rick has been involved in the budgeting and finances of the over SS million per year business, with approximately SO employees.
He has a heart for young people. He has, on many occasions, spoken to groups of young people about the pitfalls of drugs and alcohol. He cares
